2023 - A NEW SEASON
That phrase describes the person who delights in the law of the Lord--they will be like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season. First of all, I am sure the author is speaking of one's life as a "season," and certainly that is true. Across the centuries, the span of one life is but a season.
But here it is--a New Year; often a time of reflection for many. And, since my birthday is in December and Christmas, which, as it did this year, entailed a gathering of our family from across the country, reflection thoughts kind of double or triple up for me.
Birthdays are interesting. I turned 69 this past December. For many years, I thought incorrectly about these birthday numbers until reading John Wesley's journals years ago. On his 69th birthday, Wesley would write, "I have begun my 70th year."--I carefully checked the math--he was right! So here I am now--living in the 70th year of my life. WOW! It's a time of reflection after reflection!
One of those is that my life has had many seasons. I hope, and I do believe, each one has yielded fruit in some way. But here comes another one, and this old tree is not yet ready to wither and die, but the question remains, will it yield its fruit in this season?
So I'm making plans--plans to be a fruitful tree--in my 70's 😮!
Whatever season of life is yours in this New Year, I pray you are planted by living waters and making plans for a great yield of fruit, grace, and blessing in 2023!
