| The Western Sun Caps Off Another Day in the Life . . . |
You might think this not much of a story. It was an ordinary day--full of taking care of home business. I assigned myself to the deck. It's pretty big. It's also surrounded by six huge--I mean at least 60 feet high--long-needled pine trees, and an Oak tree spreads over it. Pine needles and a million acorns. Plus, we had some wind this week, so throw in a lot of small branches. The morning was taken up with clearing it of all that debris and discarding last year's plants that the Mississippi winter had killed off.
After my lunch of a Bai drink (Bing Cherry--my favorite), some fruit, and a protein bar. I decided to disassemble an old swing that we inherited when we bought the house. It was broken and of no real use anymore. Disassemble, because that's the easiest way for me to dispose of it. Have you noticed how hard it is to get rid of things these days?
I didn't plan for it to take all
afternoon, but . . . for many years now, life has forced me to live by this
rule: Everything takes longer than you think. This
swing was an old wooden one, hung by chains from a frame that had been
built on the deck. It was all held together by a zillion wood screws and nuts
and bolts.
I'm a
little paranoid about screws--or nails--when I "disassemble" something. I
want them all out, not sticking out of the wood so they can stab me. So that's
what I did--lived with my paranoia and removed them all.
Did I mention mention my Craftsman
Ratchet Set? I love that thing! Many years ago now, Beth was a big QVC fan. She
would find some great deals on tools, so she started buying some for me as
presents. Well, I can be a little slow on the uptake sometimes. It took me
awhile, but I began to realize she was buying those tools for her--for me to
use--for her. Yeah, yeah, yeah---she asked me earlier in the week when I was
going to get rid of that swing!

WD-40 is My Friend
|
About half way through the afternoon I remembered an old friend of mine. You know, good friends can make every job a little easier, and he did! The nuts and bolts were a lot more cooperative after he showed up.
But none of this was the best part of my ordinary day, although there is always the good feeling of a sense of accomplishment when you've cleaned up a mess. For the day, I deliberately chose not to listen to my music or a podcast. I wanted to soak in the sights and sounds of my surroundings. It was an absolutely beautiful day here in Mississppi! A clear blue sky, trees starting to leaf, and nature alive and well--geese honking, cardinals singing, and once in while, the sudden movement of a lizard on the deck out of the corner of my eye. And at three o-clock in the afternoon it was a perfect 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
Make sure you turn up your sound when you play the video below so you can hear the birds and geese.
Just Another Beautiful Day in Paradise
And also, all day long, a reminder of the Fountain of Living Waters. It was an ordinary, breatiful, great day!
